Infrastructure and Logistics
Cambodia’s strategic location offers investors an important gateway within the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) as Cambodia serves as a vital trade corridor between two of the largest economies in the subregion Thailand and Vietnam. As one of ASEAN’s fastest-growing economies, Cambodia has witnessed a surge in trade activities, driving an exponential demand for logistics expertise, integrated supply chain, and state-of-the-art warehousing and distribution hubs.
Cambodia’s strategic location and accelerating infrastructure development are transforming it into a competitive logistics hub in the ASEAN region. The Southern Economic Corridor (SEC) links Bangkok, Phnom Penh, and Ho Chi Minh City, enabling efficient cross-border trade. Cambodia also lies between two major deep seaports—Vietnam’s Saigon Port and Thailand’s Port of Laem Chabang, offering exporters multiple access points to global markets. To meet growing economic demands, Cambodia is prioritizing infrastructure upgrades. The Phnom Penh–Sihanoukville Expressway, launched in October 2022, has cut freight transit times by nearly 50%. At the same time, construction of the Phnom Penh–Bavet Expressway, which began in June 2023, is set for completion by 2027. A feasibility study for the Phnom Penh–Siem Reap–Poipet Expressway has also been completed. Moreover, Cambodia is also expanding its deep-sea port capacity, with regular shipping lines connecting to major Southeast and East Asian ports, and access to the U.S. and EU markets. Further boosting inland logistics, the $1.7 billion Funan Techo Canal will connect the Mekong River to Cambodia’s transport network. In the air sector, the upcoming Techo International Airport that is scheduled to officially open for operations on September 2025 —set to be one of Southeast Asia’s largest—will significantly boost cargo and passenger capacity.
Cambodia offers promising opportunities for investment in logistics centers, ports, cargo services, cold chain logistics, warehousing, smart warehouses and multimodal transport solutions. The year-on-year increases in both imports and exports and the growing investment across various manufacturing sectors require highly efficient supply chain networks to ehance Cambodia’s role as a manufacturing and export hub. Specifically, the increase in e-commerce activities both in Cambodia and the region raises the demand for modern fulfillment centers, last-mile delivery services, and automated logistics solutions. To boost connectivity, lower logistics costs, and enhance multimodal transport efficiency, the Cambodian government launched the Comprehensive Master Plan on Intermodal Transport and Logistics System 2023–2033, which outlines specific investment opportunities across the sector. The masterplan focuses on developing roads, railways, ports, and inland waterway transport, while integrating smart logistics technologies to optimize supply chain operations. These factors help position Cambodia as a highly competitive player in regional and global trade.
